A New Role:
A week ago, I was on the set of a local movie for 36 hours. I was a featured extra playing a photographer while also actually documenting the filming for my job. This was a new experience for me, being a “set” photographer. Since I did not have any specialized equiptment, such as a sound blimp (see images here http://tinyurl.com/65bslnj ) I was having to shoot only when the natural sound would cover the sound of my shutter. This was a challenge, because for a lot of the scenes, only the actors were mic’ed, the extras in the background all pantomined and a plan to drop in crowd sound later.
The production team was using a RED camera with Zeiss primes to capture the footage and the quality was outstanding. I found the way they set up scenes and the way they lit the location was especially interesting.
